Innocent Family

On our way down from a high range area  from Sri Lanka, where we had gone to enquire into an allegation with regard to some election procedures, we met this happy family-- a father, mother and a pea-ling. This is one of the several places I found animals and birds live without any fear among the native people in this small country. When we become more civilised we become more  terrific killers and learn to rain destruction on nature and all its inhabitants. We can find several attempts all over the world to make the aboriginal people, more "civilised". What is the nature of that civilisation that we are trying to  impose upon those innocent communities? instead of trying to teach them, let us try to learn from them-- learn the golden art of living. UN EXPECTED guest

We were just turning to a rough road in an interior village of Sri Lanka, after discussions with a few people about the Presidential elections, when an unexpected guest on our way suddenly raised his head. He never expected a car to disturb him at this time of the day. It was a water monitor. First I presumed it to be a crocodile, but no. I tried to go near but the Sri Lankan colleague in our delegation cautioned, it can beat any one to ground with his strong tail. It has no teeth, but has a sturdy tail. There is a rivulet nearby and he/ she slowly crawled to the waters.

With so many villagers around, how can these reptiles live so peacefully? There is a special chemistry between the rustics and the animate and inanimate objects around. We have so much to learn from them-- the lessons of peaceful co- existence.

What do we gain by war?

In one of the interior places of Sri Lanka, I met this friend, who lost one of his eyes during the 30 year war which had ravaged the whole country and disrupted peace for long. He had his military training in India before. There are thousands who have lost their limbs and such other organs in the course of this terrible fight. What have they all achieved? Only the manufacturers of the weapons were happy. There will come a time when no one will dare wage a futile war in future.
