I
WAS BORN A TRIBAL
I
was born a tribal, in the lap of nature,
With
wings on trees, and scales on waters,
Jocund
as sea gull, I enjoyed my proud estate;
All
the jungle was dear home to me.
Suddenly
you came, saw me naked and crude,
Your
fellows followed, saw me un-Christian,
Yet
a few others saw me barbarian
And
quite a good number cursed my paganism
During the course you
civilized me,
But alas! I bemoan my fate
All I had, I have lost
Though well clad, you are naked inside.
