Titles of Dr. Abraham Karickam (No:2 Love Poems)

"These poems of Abraham Karickam are in the great tradition of devotional poems, whether in the East or in the West. To Abraham God is not a category or an Idea. God is a living person both loving and lovable, a person with whom one can forge  friendship both human and divine, a rise and fall, growth and decline. It can rejuvenate, it can resuscitate. In love relations there are stages of frustration, and despondency and also stages of exultation and ecstasy. This moment one is at the summit of a union with the Lord, the next moment is in the abyss of alienation.

The different mental states created by love in the poet are given powerful expressions in these poems. As it is, the love between mankind and God and it's ways are strange and wonderous.

............To me these poems have been a mine of delight.  I recommend them to my friends with all my heart. Their shortcomings pale into insignificance in the lustre of their intensity and sincerity. I wish Abraham the best; may he fully blossom in the years to come. May these poems find favor with you".

              Dr K. M Tharakan (Former President of Kerala Sahitya Academy)

It is a collection of 60 love poems written on various occasions. Most of these were written in Taize Community, France during different visits.

                        The first edition  was released by Dr. Alexander Marthoma Valiya Metropolitian by giving the first copy to Dr. K M Tharakan at a function held in Mar Thoma College Thiruvalla.

Love poems of Dr. Karickam No. 2 : MY LOVE

MY LOVE

Whoever said that woman is frail
Knows not nature I can bet;
Like the pole star she can stay
In steadfast love till eternity.

Like the fountain fresh and sweet
She can pour out blessed streams;
Unfathomable depths I know
Beyond the measure of human scales.

Like the Himalayas she can rest
Resisting all temptations ever;
Patient as the mother Earth
Tiding over the whips of time.

If ever you dare prove this wrong
Come with me and see my love;
See my soul in her eyes
And pronounce the judgment as you please.

Love Poems of Dr Abraham Karickam No. 1: FOR THE CONTACT

FOR THE CONTACT

As a tree with roots above
And branches down and all around,
Ever I long to reside in Thee
For sap in veins for me to thrive.

My cells dry up and cry for help
As they fail to catch contact;
With withering parts and dying leaves
Can I face the gathering storm?

It is after ages of penance
And passion such that never recedes,
That I got a chance to sprout
And grow in earnest hope and joy.

Numerous of my kin around
Run and die in scorching heat;
Had I shady bowers over,
They could relax and go in peace.

When deserts spread and oceans dry
And the Center sways in atomic tremor;
Can I hope to catch a  glimmer?
Of that face I longed to see?
