PRASHNOPANISHAD PART –IV
The next one to approach
the great sage was Gargyan. He asked the following question: “Bhagavan, which
elements in the body help one to sleep and then wake up? Who promotes sleep?
Who enjoys happiness and pleasure and where in reside all these components?”
Pippalada Muni gives the following reply. Just like
all the rays of the Sun reside in the same being, all the indrias resides in
the mind which is the Paramatma. This Supreme Soul is not affected by any
external stimulations. He is in the state of sushupthi.
“Pranagna ya yevaithasmin puraijagrathai, gaar
Hapathyo havayesho paano vyaanonuaharya
Pachano yath gaarhapathyath, praneeyathe pranaya
Nathahavaneeya: praana:” - Part 3 : 3
[The five elements
reside in the city which is the body. These are the elements that lead the mind
to Brahma.]
Stanza V clearly states that the
soul experiences its sanctity even in a dream. It transcends all the boundaries
of worldliness and contemplates always on the eternal.
Stanza VII postulates that just
as so many birds take refuge in one huge tree, all the elements in the body
depend on the Paramatma.
“Vijnanaatmaa saha
devaischa sarvai:
Praanaa bhutani sam
prathishtanti yatra
Thadaksharam veda yathe
yesthru soumya
Sa sarvajna:
sarvamevaa vivesha ithi” - Part 4: 11
[One who knows the
deathless Paramatma becomes a ‘Sarvajnani ‘or all knowing being. He becomes one
with the Over Soul. All panchabhutas, all indrias, all souls and all knowledge
depend only on this Paramatma]
